How to Stick to Your Goals

Shane Torres

How do you stick to the goals you set? How do you stay organized? How do you manage it all?

I get these questions all the time, on a regular basis. The honest answer to these questions is probably going to shock and disappoint some of you. It's nothing special! The answer is simply: consistency.

No matter what your goals are, big or small, you need to stick to them and follow through. Easier said than done, right?

It can be overwhelming trying to stick to your goals and at the same time run your business. This is why consistency takes the right tools to keep you on track. I learned that early on in my business, that getting organized with the right tools in place was key to staying consistent every single day.

My tools are basically all things Google (no I am not sponsored).

Here are my top 3!

1. Google Calendar

This free calendar is a power tools when it comes to staying organized. You can color code, create different calendars to manage different businesses, and break down your months, weeks, and even hours of the day into different blocks. You can share your calendar with team members to keep everyone on track with your schedule, which is helpful for appointment scheduling, sharing availability, creating time for team meetings, etc.

Blocking out your days on a calendar also forces you to make the most of your time and stick to it. If you struggle with staying organized, creating a consistent plan for each day will hold you accountable to yourself and your team, and help balance the time you spend on your business and with your family.

2. Google Drive

This online, cloud-based platform creates a space where you can keep all of your documents in one place and share them with team members. The great thing about this tool is that it’s also free, and allows you to upload and share rather large files with anyone on Google.

If you happen to hit the limit of storage space, you can upgrade for just a couple of bucks a month. But for most businesses you would have to have a huge amount of documents to go over 15 GB.

You can create folders, organize by category or date, and easily add and remove the people you share your drive files with easily.

3. Google Keep

The last but not least Google tool is Google Keep. This is a note-taking app that works great for quick ideas that you need to jot down in a pinch, and come back to later. Since it’s on the Google platform, you can easily create a Google doc from a Keep note from your computer or phone, and share with your team members. You can also create reminders, or make an audio recording that Keep can transcribe into a note for you.

Keep also allows you to organize your notes by category and create color-codes for different types of notes. So you could save meeting notes, random thoughts, and reminders all in separate categories or organize in different colors.

There you have it, my top 3 Google apps that I use to stay organized on a day-to-day basis.

Those are not the only ones I’m on: I regularly use many other apps for things like health, fitness and finance. There really is an app for everything!

Aside from using apps to stay organized, on a personal level it’s also extremely important to find the right people who help manage the systems in your business. You can’t do it all, and if you want to reach your goals, you’re going to need support, structure, and people on your team to help you manage the growth you plan on creating in your business.

If you’re a little overwhelmed by all of this and aren’t currently using Google apps or working with a team of people, then let’s talk about how to make that happen this year.
